Equity is a measure of educational outcomes. Equity extends beyond the “level playing field” analogy and becomes the yardstick by which we measure the results of our educational system. When our system is truly equitable, it will be impossible to predict the academic success of our children based on race, class, or disability.
The initial Equity Report Card was published in 2006 by The Village at Ithaca. The Equity Report Card has since transitioned into an interactive online format created by the Ithaca City School District and can be found here.
To promote equity across Tompkins County, three Cornell scholars from the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research partnered with The Village at Ithaca in the summer of 2024 to expand the scope of equity report cards. Scholars compiled publicly available data from NYSED to create equity report cards for all six school districts in Tompkins County. Scholars also worked with students from the Village at Ithaca to gather qualitative data that highlights inequity across the county. The Village will continue expanding these equity report cards to advocate for equity across Tompkins County.
